New Site Features

Welp, I know this site isnt used much. I still need to get to work on advertising but I feel that all the puzzle pieces are in place to make this site work as well as it can with the tools that I have.
Some of the new noted features:

  • The chat room now fully works, including a help bot named TalkSpringfield that sits in there 24×7 unless my server dies.
  • A new review template. The link lets you just fill in questions about the business you want to review. It will make all the posts look the same. In the future I can use this to help make a search able interface!
  • Ad Managment. Currently theres no ads but the google ones.. and only once per page if theres more than 6 replies to a topic. This is very lean, but as we develop sponsors, or just want to advertise somone it will be easy to do.
  • Birthday posts. Birthdays are special. A bot will wish you a happy birthday via forum post..  We will also send you a email or just a personal message based on your profile settings.
  • People can now add comments to your profile. This might be good for small reviews of businesses or just letting everyone know how helpful a individual is.
  • When you first join, the bot makes a topic in the introduce yourself section. We really want you to say hi, thats the whole point of this site!
  • Theres a TalkSpringfield watermark on all of the images added to our site if you use the attachment feature. This is just to let people know who is hosting it if they hotlink to it. Other sites may just not allow it, but we want to be as social as possible. Go ahead and send the picture to others.

Soon we will be able to allow people to register on the forum with their facebook credentials, but until then, we offer OPENID as well as standard registration.

CWLP offers rebates for new applicances

If you are wanting a new refridgerator, dishwasher or humidifyer, you are in luck. CWLP will be offering mail in rebates for them.

Rebate amounts are $400 for a qualifying refrigerator, $200 for a qualifying dishwasher, and $100 for a qualifying dehumidifier.

Our First Snow

I hope you have new tires on your car! We had our first real snow this weekend and boy was it slippery. I had the privilage of driving in it last Saturday and Sunday. I drove in a 4×4 this year. It made a huge difference!

Just drive safe. Remember to start out slow and slow down farther down the road than you would usually.

If you get stuck in snow you can always try some sand or cat litter behind the tire that spins. If you can, dig your tires a path before you try and leave.

A reader had added: “When driving a rear wheel drive vehicle. If you get stuck and one wheel spins, you can try applying the parking brake slightly, only slightly, this fools the rear end gears into sending torque to the other side of the car and may get you moving again. Don’t forget to release the brake once you are moving again. Good tip if you can’t find sand or cat litter.

Black Friday

Is it just me or does black Friday not seem that appealing anymore? Maybe its because I dont want anything right now, or maybe its the ability to already get pretty decent deals thanks to the internets.
