Saving money on your shopping with these helpfull websites.

Most of us are hurting this year, but it doesn’t always mean you have to nix Christmas entirely this year. There are lots of good places to shop that you can get great deals on new and lightly used items this year.

In this article I will give you some tips in shopping and getting a good deal. It may be too late to ship something, however you can use these tips everyday to get the best deal.

First of you might want to check out what people have for sale locally. Two sites have emerged that allow people to post things for sale in their home towns for free.

The first is craigslist which was established by Craig in San Fransisco the website is relatively simple having you only have a valid email to use. All the email accounts are then converted to craigslist emails for safety and anonymity. On the site you will see categories, jobs, events, and even a place for people to post rants. In the for sale section you will see plenty to shop for, most of it used but in good shape.

Next on the list is a similar website, Kajiji. Kijiji is ebay’s attempt at a craigslist clone. The interface isnt simple, but the listings are must better looking. This service is also free and has a lot more features. Though not as many people use this as craigslist.

If you want something new or are searching for something specific you could always look on websites for their recertified or open-box items. Websites such as crutchfield.com, newegg.com and amazon.com have an open box secion as well as a recertified section. Recent statistics show most electronics are returned defective because the person who bought them simply does not know how to use the device.

You can also score deals on the websites that are dedicated to selling one product a day until they run out. These websites get great deals on items by buying up the product for sale in question in bulk to save money. Websites like woot.com have become very popular for these items.

Other places look for deals every day and list them such as slickdeals.net

If all else fails you can try going to GOOGLE Shopping to help you find the best deal on the new product you want.

I hope this information helps you save a bit of money in the long run.

I would like to take the time to apologize for the website downtime we have experienced this week. We should be back up and running as of now. If you receive any errors while using this website, PLEASE report them in the bugs section of the forum or email mail[at symbol]talkspringfield[period]com. We had to restore a backup that really didnt exist because of our previous web host. We have since taken our webhost to another company that so far has outdone itself.

You will start to see features added to this website as time goes by. Most importantly this front page will be filled with interesting articles and images from Springfield IL and Springfield only. If you would like to write an article, feel free to register a account with the front page and create one. Once that article is written, we will review and approve it if appropriate. Thank you.

Explaining what changes the website is going through and why we decided to make these changes.

When this site originally was devised we had a few goals. At the forefront we wanted to enable communication between everyone in Springfield, IL and its surrounding cities. Craigslist had a feature like this, but everyone either had to communicate via new thread or emailing directly. SJ-R has a comments section, but most of the communication got lost between the actual stories comments.

We originally set out to correct this, unfortunately along the way we lost sight of the goals and started adding additional features that weren’t really needed to run a community board. We had a chat room, groups pages, events calendars, rss feeds, news, and all other things that could be made more readily available on other sites.

This made us think about the actual goal of this site a bit more, instead of focusing on things that other sites did well, we should focus on the primary goals of this site. Because of this we have converted our main page into a sort of highlights reel. Anything that goes on around this site can be promoted more efficiently through news and stories. These stories will be written by members of this site as well as pulled in from the back end of this site.

When I say back end I really mean the heart of what this site is supposed to be about. Our goals led us to use a forum to help convey the community aspect of the website. With the forum layout, the articles, groups, events on that forum can be read by what we would like to call our “staff” and important and interesting articles can have their own place on the front page.

The redesign was a complete overhaul and I do apologize for the lack of updates to the viewers but the overall goal of the redesign was to simplify the interface as well as promote more people to get on and chat. We noticed that the primary users of the website were people putting on events. This was great, but there are many many other calendars available on large customer based sites that this service already exists. We are going to keep these services but really want to promote a community feel. This is why we chose to consolidate all of our features to two parts. The front page, news style website, and more importantly, our forums.

The forums will give a place for people to communicate with each other, discuss events, and groups in a simplistic open way. Before we had all these sections separated and the ammount of links on the page started increasing. This caused an almost clustered feeling on this website. To remedy this, we have consolidated our links to the basics. A registration page, a front page, and a set of forums with topics.

I feel this choice will improve how everyday users are taking advantage of this site. Before I feel that the primary goal was to promote, and we still want to keep this feature, but we also would like to promote use of the forum overall. Everything has been consolidated to this forum look to help facilitate this.

If you have any questions about this site, feel free to leave a comment on the article, or inside the forums. There is also
