This isn’t necessarily Springfield related, no its more WORLD related. SOPA is the act that is in progress that aims to be able to blacklist entire websites for having copyright materials. That means websites like YouTube could be shut down simply for someone else posting a music video or similar content. Forums like this could be shut down forever because of this bill. This bill simply takes away our freedom of speech and sadly a lot of people don’t even know about it. People who already own copyrights have more than a fair share of power dealing with their materials. Those videos on youtube can be deleted, accounts can be removed.. lets not give them the power to shut entire blocks of the internet down. Lets keep the power where it belongs.. with the people.

Please take the time to watch these videos below to learn more about the bill and educate yourself. After that, take the time to call or write to congress and tell them you do not support taking away our freedoms.

This isnt the first time old media wanted to destroy a new technology.

VHS:  ”I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone.” -Jack Valenti

This was also the case with the MP3 Player, the Theaters Film, broadcast radio and the cassette tape.

www.capitalcitymenus.com has existed since 2009, with PDF documents of a large selection of places to eat out in Springfield Illinois. Most importantly, they have a section that lists all the places that deliver!

What is CapitalCityMenus.com?
Have you ever wanted to try a new restaurant but weren’t quite sure what they had. Or maybe you’re tired of ordering the same old thing week after week and you want to see what else is out there.

At CapitalCityMenus.com we ease this dilemma by posting online menus for all the great restaurants in and around the Capital City. We look forward to serving the Springfield community and we hope you enjoy our efforts.

Who created CapitalCityMenus.com?
CapitalCityMenus.com was created in 2009 by a couple of average Joe’s Like most others, this site was started out of necessity. We needed a better way of keeping track of all the menus we accumulated over the years of eating out. We figured the best thing to do was to create a website and share our efforts with everyone. This is how CapitalCityMenus.com was born

Take a look at what they have at http://www.capitalcitymenus.com

The Springfield Zombie walk was a charity that had Washington park crawling with the zombified. I could hear doors locking and girls screaming as they walked through the park, dragging feet and moaning for brains.  They used the benifit to help raise money for  E.R.C. If you would like to attend next year check out their Facebook page or email them at spfd.zombiewalk@yahoo.com

Reddit? You may not have heard of it, but for many, hours are spent infront of this website laughing and learning. For those of you who may not know what reddit is let us help explain it to you. Reddit is a site in which users submit articles, pictures, and other types of media and then the viewers of that site can then upvote or downvote those articles.  The articles with the highest upvotes show up on the front page.

The site is primarily used as a way to waste time. There are even “subreddits” which are specialized catogories. If theres a nitch you may have, chances are there are people with that same interest. There is even a SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS subreddit! Check that out at http://www.reddit.com/r/SpringfieldIL

Reddit also hosts gift exchanges, as well as helps donate money to charitable causes. Reddit will be hosting a get together and one of the reddit users, tinyboots_ is trying to host a meetup for the central illinois crowd. The meetup will be hosted in washington park at 5 p.m. this saturday june 25th. If you have used the site and would like to meet others with the same intersts, feel free to show up for hotdogs and hamburgers.

When this site originally was devised we had a few goals. At the forefront we wanted to enable communication between everyone in Springfield, IL and its surrounding cities. Craigslist had a feature like this, but everyone either had to communicate via new thread or emailing directly. SJ-R has a comments section, but most of the communication got lost between the actual stories comments. Read the rest of this entry »
